This weekend brought our introduction to the newest member of the family, Max. We have no grandchildren as yet, so for my married daugher, Kathryn and her husband, Ron, Max is their start on training for the eventual kid(s). Max is dependent, needy, and extremely cute, at least in our eyes, just like any grandchild will be. The main differences is that he doesn’t require frequent baths and he’s housetrained! We can vouch for the housetraining. Max was well-behaved as we dog-sat him Saturday evening as Ron and Kathryn visited friends in Charlotte.
Max came to them from a neighbor who due to personal circumstances couldn’t keep him. So, he came fully equipped with housetraining, dog bowl, bed and crate. Ron and Kathryn had been on the lookout for a schnauzer, and Max was just right. Susan and I are thrilled for them because for several years we had a schnauzer, too- Sweeney. We loved her but unfortunately, she passed away unexpectedly and way too young due to a back injury. Ever since then, every time I see someone walking a schnauzer it catches my eye and turns my head.
Susan and I agree that one day we’ll again have a schnauzer of our own- maybe when our lives slow down a bit. In the meantime, we’ll be able to enjoy our new granddog, Max, even though he lives in DC. That’ll encourage more trips for us to see him (oh, and Ron and Kathryn) in the future.
