Back when I worked for Duke Power, they loaned me to a local United Way Campaign to help them raise money during their campaign season. As part of my work with them, I visited quite a few agencies and came to understand why United Way is one of the most effective ways to donate funds to help people in need. The Charlotte United Way may have gotten themselves in a pickle over executive pay, but the local UW is a different group, so I hope you don’t fault them for the goof ups of the big city to the south. The UW of Iredell is really trying to set themselves apart with an upcoming big event.
The United Way of Iredell has come up with a unique way to raise funds and focus attention on the needs of the community. They are organizing a Guiness World Record Event from March 19th to the 28th. The plan is to have 9 days of Music featuring local and visiting talent performing non-stop, 24 hours a day for a total of 228 hours… GULP!
They expect to have Bluegrass, Country, Pop & Rock, Gospel, Jazz, Church Choirs, School Chorus, High School Bands, Voice & Piano Students, and more! This will all happen at Signal Hill Mall in Statesville. Of course, donations will go toward helping the United Way of Iredell and it’s 23 member agencies in a year when it’s tougher to raise money but the needs are greater than ever.
HERE is a link to the United Way site for more information, and also a Statesville Record & Landmark article on this event is HERE.
Sounds like a pretty good way to spend a lot of time!
