My bride and I had lunch with my in-laws Sunday at Julia’s Talley House in Troutman. That always makes for a great meal of home-style cooking and of course getting the opportunity to chat with many friends who come there for lunch. After lunch, we stopped by to see the progress on the J. Hoyt Hayes Troutman Library. I was pleased to see that they’ve made great progress with walls up, roof framing up, and looks like it will be under roof soon. Here is a look at the site. A recent article in the Statesville Record & Landmark mentioned a proposal to cut library hours and expenses because of the lower tax revenue the county is getting right now. That was countered by the recognition that the libraries are getting more use now than ever before because they provide inexpensive entertainment and computer/internet access to those needing to look for and apply for jobs who don’t have that ability at home. That’s certainly a good argument for carrying on with our libraries and hopefully see no lessening of funding for the new Troutman branch when it opens early next year.
