Seems like I’ve been seeing more and more information and initiatives on affordable housing lately. One in particular caught my eye recently. The Community Housing Development Corp. of Mooresville/South Iredell builds high quality affordable homes in our area and provides low cost classes on home buying and maintenance. You can see more about them HEREor call them at 704-799-7641. They have home buyer classes coming up on July 18, Aug. 22, Sept. 19, and Oct 24 at Mitchell Community College’s Mooresville location on Academy Street.
I was particularly impressed with one of their homes recently completed on Sharpe Street in Mooresville. Rich Hawkens, the Construction Project Manager, took me and a couple other agents to the home to show off it’s qualities. The home is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath built on a foundation with 1,200 square feet priced at $119,900. It is attractive with a nicely arranged interior and has a large yard in back. The most amazing thing about it is that they guarantee that the heating and cooling will not cost more than $36/month (how’s that for affordable?). They do this by building to SystemVision standards provided by another North Carolina non-profit called Advanced Energy. Check out their page HERE for more info on how they do it.
If you are thinking of buying a house but feel you need some in-depth education and financial counseling first, the CHDC would be a good first stop for some guidance regardless of whether or not you want to buy one of their homes. I’ll be happy to work with you and the CHDC.
