I’m blogging this week from Oak Island, NC, just south of Southport (makes sense, huh). We’ve been coming here for a week’s vacation off and on since 1975. Oak Island is a quiet family beach with just a few hotels, a few condos and a fishing pier. It never gets crowded, and is deadly boring to many younger people, although my daughters have continued to enjoy it over the years. It takes us just a 5 hour drive from Mooresville to get here- just another benefit of living in Piedmont North Carolina. The weekend before, we were at Lake Lure in the NC Mountains, just a two hour drive.
Apart from my daughters and a son-in-law, we are here with my daughter’s in-laws and their other son from Oklahoma. This is their first visit to an east coast beach. So far, based on the smiles on their faces, I think they like it fine here. Ron, Sr. is a real estate agent (like me) back home. While here, he has continued to do some business as I usually do while here. Our rental house has a high speed wireless Internet connection, so it’s not hard to do lots of business type activities while here short of showing houses. My wife has always fussed a bit while at the beach if I had some business to attend to, but I think having another Realtor in the house has helped her understand that while Realtors can have very flexible schedules, successful Realtors usually have things going on that need tending regardless of where we are. When away, we can always call on an associate back home to help us with hands-on needs.
I can rest better here, knowing that we’re still taking care of business back home. Now, back to the beach!
