After our meeting of Citizens for the Troutman Library last night, we got the opportunity to go to the library building and look around.  Bernie Thompkins, who will be managing the library for Iredell County, said that she is starting to order books.  The maintenance department will soon be scheduled to begin installing the shelving.  Pretty soon, it’ll start looking like a real library!  The dedication is scheduled for April 11 and opening to the public on April 12.  At the meeting we also learned that Lowe’s is donating very nice gazebo that will be placed somewhere in the front of the library yard.  While giving us the tour, Bernie pointed out many design features that will make this library building very energy efficient, so you can be proud of the thoughtful design and construction that the group, the town and the county have undertaken.

Don’t forget that we still need to raise funds to complete paying for the library.  You can do that with direct cash donations, stock, or by buying a brick paver that can be etched with names of those you’d like to honor or memorialize.  See my previous posts for information on how to make these contributions- just click on one of the library search terms on the right of this page.

Here are a few shots of the brand spanking new interior (click on each to see a larger version).  Looks great, doesn’t it?

Here’s a sunny boost on a rainy day-  I rode by the new J. Hoyt Hayes Memorial Troutman Library this week to snap a few updated photos.  Wow, it’s looking great!  Seems a shame to wait, but the grand opening is now scheduled for mid-April, 2010.  I think the county has to get its funding act together to do this, and that’s not easy in these tough economic times.  Still, we can celebrate spring with a new Troutman Library!

I stopped by Ole World Market on Eastway in Troutman on Sunday to see the used book display.  Looks like a good selection, and the prices are right- $1 for a paperback and $2 for a hardback.  We’ll keep them fresh since we’ll also be storing our stock elsewhere in the building.  Just go into the store and look to your right.  After you buy some books, look around.  They’ve got a remarkable variety of furniture, antiques, art, and collectibles among other things.  We appreciate Ole World Market and their help with raising funds for the library.

I was in Troutman today for a listing appointment and decided to stop by the site of the new J. Hoyt Hayes Memorial Troutman Public Library.  Wow!  Things are really moving along with exterior walls up and shingles being nailed to the roof.  The weather has been spectacular lately, and I’m sure the builders have appreciated the blue skies and low humidity.  It’s helping them make great time on the library.  Here’s a photo:Troutman Library 7-7-09

I went to a meeting of Citizens for a Troutman Library on Monday night.  I’ve been working with this group for several years.  We’re making great progress toward our goal.  Fundraising has taken us to around $690,000 toward the total needed of  between $1 million and $1.2 million.  We hope to get much of the rest of the funds through in-kind donations of labor and materials from local contractors and businesses.  See the article from the Statesville Record and Landmark that reported details of our recent reception for the town to show design details.  There are links to drawings and a virtual tour there- excitement-surrounds-troutman-library-plans
